Anurag Kashyap has stirred a storm in the Hindi film industry by slamming the announcement of Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal, an AI-generated film inspired by the legend of Lord Hanuman. Slated for release on Hanuman Jayanti 2026, the project—touted as “Made-in-AI” and “Made in India”—is backed by Abundantia Entertainment and Collective Media Network.

But the film has already run into controversy, with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap sharply criticising producer Vijay Subramaniam for championing an AI-driven project while heading the Collective Artists Network, an agency representing some of India’s top actors including Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Hrithik Roshan, Yash, and Rashmika Mandanna.

Anurag Kashyap’s scathing remarks

Taking to Instagram, Anurag Kashyap shared the film’s announcement poster and singled out Vijay Subramaniam. He wrote:
“Congratulations @vijaysubramaniam84. Here is the man heading @lifeatcollectiveartistsnetwork that represents artists, writers, directors, now producing a film made by AI. So much for looking after and representing the interests of creators.”

The Anurag Kashyap criticism didn’t stop there. He slammed agencies for being driven purely by profit:
“End of the day, all these agencies are only interested in making money off you. And since they keep choosing turkeys for you and you’re not making enough for them, they are going all AI. Any actor who calls themselves an artist with a spine should be questioning him—or leaving the agency—because he has proved he thinks you’re no match for AI.”

“Shame is not enough,” says Anurag Kashyap

In a fiery conclusion, Anurag Kashyap lashed out even harder:
“This right here is the future for the spineless and cowardly so-called artists in the Hindi film industry. Well done Vijay Subramaniam. Shame is not enough on you. You should be in the gutter.”

Divided reactions in the industry

While Anurag Kashyap’s remarks echoed concerns earlier voiced by director Vikramaditya Motwane, other industry figures responded differently. Some Bollywood actors, including Ranveer Singh, Pulkit Samrat, and Bhumi Pednekar, appeared to welcome the announcement, liking and commenting on the film’s promotional post.

Meanwhile, Subramaniam defended the project, calling it an innovative approach to cultural storytelling through AI.

With filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap raising alarms about the implications of AI for creative professionals, and agencies pushing forward with new-age experiments, Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal has already become one of the most polarising projects in recent times—months before its release.
