Season 5 of The Chosen may have wrapped, but its emotional depth and character development make it worth revisiting. In an exclusive chat with actress Elizabeth Tabish, who plays Mary Magdalene in the hit series, she shared her favorite moment from the season.

“There is a scene with Thaddeus and Jesus that I adore,” Tabish said. “The way it’s filmed and edited, the writing, the performances of Giavani Cairo and Jonathan Roumie — it’s stunning. Watching this gentle, quiet character full of humility and patience have his own moment to shine… it’s a real treat.”

For long-time fans of The Chosen, Thaddeus has often remained a quiet presence. That’s why this scene is so impactful — it allows a lesser-known disciple to step into the spotlight and explore the cost and beauty of faith through intimate storytelling.

Season 6 of The Chosen Promises an Emotional Journey

Filming is now underway for Season 6 of The Chosen, and according to cast members, it’s set to be the most emotionally intense chapter yet. Abe Bueno-Jallad, who plays Big James, revealed that the entire cast has been deeply affected by the storylines and performances.

“We’re all carrying a heavy burden this season. I’ve come to set on days I’m not even working just to watch. What I’ve seen gives me goosebumps.”

Season 6 will focus on the final 24 hours of Jesus’ life, culminating in the crucifixion. Much of the season is being shot in Matera, Italy — the same location used for The Passion of the Christ — and features many overnight shoots to reflect the gravity and darkness of these moments.

Big Screen Plans: The Chosen Expands Into Theaters

In a bold new move, Amazon MGM Studios and 5&2 Studios announced that the Season 6 finale of The Chosen will be released as a feature film in theaters on May 12, 2027. This episode will depict the crucifixion of Jesus in cinematic detail.

Even more exciting, the Season 7 premiere — portraying the resurrection — will also get a theatrical release on March 31, 2028. These two standalone films are a first for The Chosen, reflecting its growing cultural and spiritual impact.

Cast Reflections on Their Journey with The Chosen

Reflecting on his journey, Bueno-Jallad shared how working on The Chosen has changed him over the years. From deep scriptural research to emotional performances, the role of Big James has become a personal mission.

“This season, I wanted to show a more vulnerable but still powerful Big James. It’s important for men to see that emotions and strength can coexist.”

From its humble beginnings as a crowdfunded project to now being backed by global platforms like Amazon MGM Studios, The Chosen continues to redefine what faith-based storytelling can achieve on screen. With its rich character arcs, cinematic visuals, and emotionally charged themes, the series has resonated with millions worldwide — crossing religious and cultural boundaries.
